The Horsham Water & Sewer Authority’s sewer televising, joint testing, and grouting project is continuing into 2013. The flushing and televising portion of the project is nearly complete as of the end of 2012. Sewer Specialty Services Co., Inc. of Leicester, New York is now moving on to the joint testing and grout sealing phase of the project which will continue through May 2013. The work is concentrated primarily in the eastern portion of the Township.
On the north side of Horsham Road, this includes all areas east of Easton Road (Route 611) and Maple Avenue. South of Horsham Road, the work area extends between Norristown Road and Blair Mill Road. Working hours are Monday through Thursday beginning at approximately 7 AM through no later than 7 PM.
The joint testing and grouting phase of the project will proceed through approximately eleven “quadrants” of the Township, similar to the sequence in which the televising was conducted. The amount of time spent in each quadrant is dependent on the quadrant size, the length of the sewer within the quadrant, and the amount of required joint repair work. As a frame of reference, under normal conditions, approximately 600 – 800 LF of sewer can be tested in a single work day.
Testing is typically followed by a separate crew which will perform the necessary grout sealing work. To the extent possible, testing and grouting will be completed in each quadrant before moving to the next quadrant with the following exceptions; 1) Some areas of the sewer system are in easements and weather conditions can impact accessibility to these areas 2) many of the larger diameter interceptor sewers traverse multiple quadrants and specialized equipment is required as part of the operation, therefore, interceptor sewers will be worked in sections, by the full run of the sewer 3) sewers located in major roadways where traffic control is required may also be conducted outside of the respective quadrant.

In extremely rare instances, you may notice a slight sewage odor, or “gurgling” in your drains as the sewer lines are prepared for testing. Should this occur, you should flush all toilets and run water in all sinks and bathtubs to ensure that water is in all plumbing traps. We also recommend that you make sure all toilet lids are closed and if you have basement windows in your home, you may wish to open them slightly.
Information regarding successive quadrants, interceptor sewers, or major roadway areas will be provided as work nears completion in the preceding quadrant.
